SOLSC #15 Can you help me?

Two Writing TeachersSlice of Life Story Challenge (SOLSC)

My laugh for the day -

Breakfast.
She comes over to me with a small ziploc bag of granola and asks me to close it.

Without thinking, in my morning fog, I zip the bag closed without asking her to try first. (Preschoolers need to work on those fine motor skills and I'm usually pretty good at insisting that they try something before I step in and fix it.)

Then she sits back down and immediately says to her classmate, with big smile, "Will you open this for me?" and hands the newly-closed bag to her classmate. The classmate - the great opener of all lunch and breakfast things - says, "Oh, sure, I can do that for you!" and he does. He hands the now twice-opened bag back to her. She murmurs - "Oh, thank you!"

In an effort to encourage children to work things out themselves, we have the general rule,

"If you need help with something, ask a friend first."

We love this rule. We noticed right away how much the children like to show each other what they can do.  We love that there has been a reduction in automatically asking the teachers for help.

But this was a new twist - create something that you cannot do and ask a classmate for help?

Well, you can't get your classmate to help you if you don't have a problem.

Too funny.
