Tuesday SOLSC - Together again

[A slice that needed to be revised!!  I tried my hand at an early morning poem, only to confuse.]

The children
had so many
expectations,
then,

"traveling"
"Florida," "California," "Boston,"
"New York," "South Carolina,"
"Kenya," (truly!)
"airplane,"
"train,"
"car trip."

Their
expectations,

"our house,"
"Washington, D.C.,"
"grammy's,"
"auntie's,"
"dad's,"
"babysitter,"
"family."

Their
expectations,

"playground,"
"zoo,"
"riding bikes,"
"egg hunts,"
"museums,"
"Passover,"
"Easter."

We spent ten days apart, everyone in different directions.

Their
unified
expectation,
today,
I hope,

"friends,
teachers,
sand,
blocks,
dress ups,
art,
hello song."

Our community.
Together again.

P.S. Today's return to school was delightful!  There was a lovely hum in the classroom, children getting along fabulously, enjoying one another's company and all the things to do, and giving Ms. Ingram lots of hugs!

  1. I hope it was clear that these were expectations by my whole class - I, myself, stayed local and rested! It is always exciting to try to come together after the class has been in so many different directions.

  2. Oh, Maureen, I'm so glad you answered Anita. I too thought you'd done all that during your break. Whew! We had lots of students traveling to so many places. Glad you got to stay home to have some r & r! I like the way you arranged your poem with the "expectation" label. How true for vacations some of the time-go, go, go!

  3. I dared to revise this poem! (The flexibility of a blog post!) It was an early morning creation - and unclear. I hope it makes a little more sense now. I was trying to capture how amazing this day always is - when young children have been so many different places, they always enjoy returning to "normal" - their happy classroom, where things are predictable and routine. I know I love it, too, as an adult!

  4. The hugs the first day back are so warm and "expected." Glad you had a great day back.
