SOLSC #1 Daring to begin again

During the month of March, I am participating in
the Slice of Life Story Challenge.
All participants are writing about one moment, one part of their day, every day for thirty-one days. My slices will be primarily about teaching preschoolers.
Check out the Two Writing Teachers website for many more reflections on teaching.

Happy March 1st!
This is my fifth year of participation in this writing challenge and I am filled with anticipation and optimism.

I know it is possible to write and post daily, even though I trudge through most of the year with a weekly post at most.
I am delighted to reconnect with blogs and their writers, and to find more great blogs and teacher writers.
I love the support and energy of this writing community.
I love how my observational skills grow, I become much more attuned to little moments of teaching, more aware of interactions, more present with my students.
I hope to become reinvigorated about teaching, as has happened each year previous...I think this is such an awesome gift of conversing with so many during the month.
I know I will make better use of my time, keeping writing ever present on my mind, and squeezing it in at new and different times of my day. This year, I am "upping the ante" on this time management, with one new personal goal this year -

to continue to exercise/work out during the month of March - especially, lifting weights

There. I put it into print.
Every year of this writing challenge, this has been the piece of my life that has disappeared during the March Challenge. Last year, I didn't get back into the habit until summer came! No, this is not happening again. I will fit writing into my life, and not give other important things up. May this work!

What do you have to give up in order to write? How do you prioritize?

Happy writing, one and all! Yes, we can!!

  1. I give up sleep! I have a hard time slowing my brain down anyway. This year I'm going to steal moments to comment during the day so that I'm not hastily commenting at night just to jump through that hoop.

I look forward to reading your posts and asking how the exercise plan is going! My exercise plan is to attend Spin and RPM classes more so that I'm ready for summer riding in the mountains.

  2. I have a lot more time this year because I've retired as you know, but I'm fast filling the time with other things! What I give up is other kinds of personal writing. I can still do the exercise, still have the moments of relaxation and reading, but the time for real concentration in writing work will go. The time just isn't there. Best wishes in this new goal, Maureen. I always enjoy your slices!
